In this lab I will look at 3 different processes currently running in my task manager and discuss what they are doing.
- The first process I chose is: "PresentationFontCache.exe". This file belongs to the graphical subset of the Microsoft .NET framework and was an essential part of the Vista operating system. Now, it is mainly used with Windows Presentation Foundation Applications. This process is located in the "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\ " folder. As you can see in the image below, this process doesn't use any of my cpu so it doesn't bother me to be running.
2. The second process I chose is the "Antimalware Service Executable", or "MsMPEng.exe" in previous Windows OSes. This process is part of Windows Defender/Windows Malware Protection. It's file path is "C:/program files/Windows defender"
3. And the third process I chose to research is "Steam Client Service", or "SteamService.exe". This process is a non-essential service run by the program Steam. Steam is an entertainment platform for PC games. I always have my Steam client running and thus, the services running too. The file path is: "C:/program files/steam"
